Cash Discount

Cash Discount:Card Fees Off Your Books

The program that pays for the free POS. Here is what it is, how the register handles it, and who it fits.

How It Works

Posted Price For Cards, A Discount For Cash

Your prices are posted with the cost of accepting cards already included. A customer who pays cash gets that amount taken off at the register. A customer who pays by card pays the posted price. The receipt shows the discount line, and a notice at the door and at the register says the discount is available.

The processing cost no longer comes out of your deposits. That is the margin that covers the Genius hardware, the installation and the software, which is why the POS is free rather than leased.

The register does the math. Your staff rings the sale the way they always have. We set the program up on the Genius system with the signage and receipt wording it needs, and we review it with you before the first transaction.

Who It Fits

Where Owners Use It

  1. 01

    Restaurants And Bars

High card volume and tight margins. A few points back on every ticket adds up fast.

  2. 02

    Retail Stores

Posted prices already on the shelf. The discount shows at the register and on the receipt.

  3. 03

    Service Counters

Salons, shops and trades that take cards at a counter and would rather not fund the fee themselves.

  4. 04

    Owners Who Prefer One Price

If you would rather absorb the fee and keep one price for everyone, we set the account up that way. The POS stays free.

Straight Answers

Questions Owners Ask About Cash Discount

Will customers mind?
Most do not notice. The posted price is the price. Cash payers see a discount line, which reads as a bonus, not a penalty. Owners tell us the questions stop after the first week.
Is this the same as a surcharge?
No. A surcharge adds a fee on top of the price for card payers and has its own rules. Cash discount posts one price and takes an amount off for cash. We set it up the cash discount way and keep the signage and receipt wording right.
What about debit cards?
Debit is handled inside the program the same way at the register. We walk through it on the quote so there are no surprises.
Can I turn it off later?
Yes. The account can be moved to standard processing where you absorb the fee. The free POS does not depend on which way you choose.
